Reese Witherspoon started seriously pursuing an acting career when she enrolled at Stanford University. She had early successes with films such as Pleasantville, Election and Legally Blonde. But it was her performance as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde's box office smash that marked the beginning of her career. Witherspoon received one Academy Award, in 2005 in her role as Walk the Line.
