Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress and performer. Queen Latifah is an Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita, a instructor in Irvington High School. Her parents divorced around the age of ten. Latifah was born and raised in Newark New Jersey attended Catholic schools in Newark. Latifah can be described as an Arabic word which means "delicate and gentle". The cousin she had bestowed it on her when she was eight. Latifah's height of 5'10" made her a powerful forward in high school. The number she sang was"Home" from the musical The Wiz in a high school play. Latifah was part of the Ladies Fresh, a rap group which launched her journey into beatboxing. Latifah became part of in the Flavor Unit in its original model, consisting of a group of MCs led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the45King) recorded a sample of Queen Latifah rapper Princess of the Posse. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. The single caught the eye to Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who signed Latifah and, in 1988, released her first single Wrath of My Madness.
