Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born the 20th of February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy was one of six kids. Nancy's father was an avid fan of music and loved to play records in the family. It had a huge influence upon her growing up. At the age of four, Nancy was aware that she would like to become an accomplished musician. She developed her musical talent through singing in church choirs. Following her win in a talent show on television at the age of 15, she began appearing regularly in Skyline Melodies, while still in high school. In the nightclubs she started singing at the age of 15. Nancy was just 17 when she finished high school. After enrolling at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one semester, Nancy quit to become an experienced performer. The first time she recorded was with the Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, who she performed with from 1956 until 1958. While in the group Nancy released her first record in the studio of Dot Records. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she make the move into New York so as to enhance her career. In 1959, Nancy moved in The Big Town. She was hired to sing in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had come across her. She made her recording debut in the year 1960, with a single after he obtained the contract with Capitol Records. Guess Who I Saw Today. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Adderley encouraged her to shift away from R&B to jazz and torch song. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley joined forces in 1962 and led to her rise up on the charts.
